10-year anniversary for inspirational cardiac rehab instructor
Fitness Instructor, Sarah Smith is celebrating a major milestone, the 10-year anniversary of her first ever cardiac rehab session she taught here at the Aquadrome.
Since June 2015, Sarah has supported countless local people who have experienced a cardiac incident, expertly and compassionately guiding them as they return to activity after what can be a life changing event for many.
Among that large group of people supported by Sarah is current attendee Steve, who’s been coming to our gym for over seven years.
“I like to think of Sarah as a friend as much as a trainer. She’s been fantastic with me. She finds all your idiosyncrasies and works with you to come up with a plan that suits you.
“Coming here has been great for my mental and physical health. Congratulations Sarah on hitting your big anniversary. You’re a credit to the centre.”
Another regular attendee is Ted, who uses the session to kickstart his day.
“After coming to the gym, I really feel full of beans! Which is funny, as I sometimes head down to the allotment once I’ve done my exercises!”
Guest of honour at the celebration was Dr Andrew Bishop, Consultant Cardiology and Chief Medical Officer, who met up with several former patients on the day.
"It was a great pleasure to visit old friends for tea and cake on the 10th anniversary of the cardiac rehab group, who are now regulars at the Aquadrome. There is no better way to get and stay fit after heart treatment than to be in their regular classes.
“Being part of the group clearly keeps everyone healthy and active and just as importantly the companionship and team spirit is a great antidote to the anxiety and loss of confidence that can follow heart trouble. Keep up the good work – you are literally lifesavers!"
