At Basingstoke and Deane Community Leisure Trust, we understand the importance of reducing our carbon footprint and being ‘green’. Over the past few years, we have been working hard to improve our environmental performance, and have had some great successes; some of our actions have even been replicated at other leisure centres.
Together, the Aquadrome and Tadley Pool reduced their CO2 emissions by 377 tonnes in 2008 compared to 2007 – this was a 12% reduction which we are very pleased with. We will continue to work toward further reductions both now and in the future.
Our savings have been achieved through a common sense approach to reducing unnecessary use, ensuring settings were optimised, installing new equipment and raising staff awareness. Many of the actions we took can also be done at home – see our ‘helping you reduce your carbon footprint’ pages.
